What Are Puffy Eyes?

You would know if you have puffy eyes because your eyes start to swell. Notice that the skin around the eyes is so thin and is full of blood vessels. After some time, puffy eyes will just vanish. But in case, pain, discomfort, blurry vision and other conditions are experienced, you need to have your eyes examined by an ophthalmologist.

The causes of puffy eyes range from fluid retention, stress, allergies, hormone changes and other factors. When you cry, for instance, you usually have swollen eyes afterwards. This is because the body reacts to emotions and triggers more blood to flow through the eyes resulting in swelling. Too many tears can also strain the eyes. Sleeping may also cause puffy eyes due to too much sodium in the diet and too much alcohol intake.

To eliminate normal puffy eyes, there are a few simple remedies you can choose. Wash your face with ice cold water or drink plenty of water to cleanse your system. Limit also your sodium intake. If you have cucumber at home, place two slices on the eyes for several minutes or moisten tea bags in cold water, chill them first before placing them over your closed eyelids for a few minutes.
