Acuvue Contact Lenses

Vistakon, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, the world’s biggest manufacturer of pharmaceutical and medical devices and consumer goods, is the maker of Acuvue, probably one of the most popular brands of disposable contact lenses in the market today. Consumers and medical professionals choose Acuvue over other contact lens brand primarily because of Acuvue’s versatility. Beneath the Acuvue brand are several Acuvue products which have been specifically developed to meet the exacting demands of each individual consumer.

Acuvue produces four kinds of contact lenses. These are the spherical (regular contact lenses), contact lenses for astigmatism, lenses for presbyopia, and colour or cosmetic lenses.

Spherical lenses are those that improve basic visual problems such as far or long sightedness (hyperopia) and near or short sightedness (myopia). The Acuvue products that fall under this category include Acuvue, Acuvue Advance with Hydraclear, Acuvue 2, 1-day Acuvue and Acuvue 2 Colours.

Contact lenses for astigmatism help improve the vision of those afflicted by it by compensating for the irregular shape of the eyeball. Acuvue Advance Brand Contact Lenses for Astigmatism give users crisp and steady vision – same as what one would normally get from wearing glasses, all day long.

Presbyopia is known as the inability to focus for near vision and is considered as one of the effects of aging. For those suffering from Presbyopia, Acuvue offers Acuvue brand Bifocal Contact Lenses. These are less cumbersome alternatives to glasses or a combination of contact lenses and special reading glasses.

Finally, there are cosmetic lenses for those who are concerned about appearances, as much as they are about their health. Colour or cosmetic lenses are generally spherical in shape but a special layer of colour is added within the membrane. There are two kinds of Acuvue colours, Acuvue Colour Enhancers (3 hues for people with light coloured eyes), which aim to enhance your existing eye tone; and Acuvue Colour Opaques (7 hues, for people with darker coloured eyes), which will change the colour of your eyes completely.

These lenses can suit any lifestyle. There are daily disposables which can be thrown away at the end of each day; and there are those that are more durable. These can be worn continuously (even while sleeping) for 7 days; or for as long as 14 nights, if you dutifully remove the lenses before you sleep and soak them in a cleansing solution.

Aside from these, what sets Acuvue apart from their competitors is that each Acuvue lens has been designed to shield your eyes from the harmful UV rays of the sun. To aid the user, Acuvue lenses are tinged with a very pale blue hue which makes the lenses easy to see, even if these are submerged in cleaning or disinfecting solutions. Wearing Acuvue is also easy because each lens has a readable “inside-out” mark.

With all these benefits, it’s no surprise that Acuvue is the choice of many and leading disposable brand in the market today.
